Eifel Tour 2020

After much deliberation on whether or not to go Bryan and myself decided to go for it!. The previous week the weather had been terrible but Saturday morning at 0700 I set off from The Hague towards the MacDonald's in Barendrecht. Bryan joined shortly afterwards and after a quick bite we headed down the motorway system of Netherlands to Eindhoven. A couple of mistakes due to my poor navigation skills we ended up at the start of the route in Leende. We had a new route this time based on the fact that when we planned our original tour Belgium was still closed to through traffic so the route took us basically across the border by Roermond into Germany.

After some traffic through the first part in Germany the roads became quieter and windier and we were back in our element!

One of the big advantages of riding with 2 means you can up the tempo a bit. This we did but we made a real effort to stop every hour for a quick break.

Finally arrived in Koerperich at 1700 having nipped across the border to Vianden and take advantage of the 1 euro per litre fuel. Hotel was great as usual, great schnitzel and Wiezenbier, clean and nice rooms. After a long day 21:00 and we were already in our rooms. Great first day ride.

Day 2 and we decided to go for our traditional tour around the Eiffel down to the Mosel for a lunch. On the way passed the new Bridge link over the Mosel to Hahn airport. Again superb roads, great sunshine but the temperature remained around 20 degrees making the riding comfortable. After a ''curry wurst'' in Reil we headed back into the Eiffel and again on the way home quick fuel stop in Vianden. Again a great ride in a beautiful part of the world.

The final day saw us head back north but this time through Germany. This time no visit to Vianden castle but some terrific roads all the way up until close the NL border. A bit of traffic as we got closer to the Ruhr areas of Germany but generally on the smaller windy roads it was quiet. At around 1400 we arrived near Leende and hit the motorway system back home.

A great weekend had by both with a terrific new route to the Eiffel.
