How to use the Logis website
Experience of riding in France has been boosted not only by the realisation that the roads are actually quite good and if you stay clear of too many villages can also be quite clear in terms of traffic, the main part that I always struggled with was finding accommodation that was satisfactory and met my needs. Many people don't want for fancy places or nice food but for me at the end of the day having the option of a nice cosy hotel in a rural area and a decent plate of food is all part of the riding fun.
Many years ago a friend introduced me to the Logis de France website and since then I haven't looked back.
The website is not only a booking site for hotels but it does have a very useful coding system so you know more or less what you are getting. Below I will try to take you through some of the steps to select what you want.
Colour codes to ensure you get what you want.
The website classifies both its restaurants and accommodation according to a simple colour coding system.
For accommodation the colours are green, orange and blue. This in ascending order. Green being basic, orange cosy (better) and blue elegant (best)
For the restaurants there is one more layer and that is the ´´white´´ classification which denotes Top table
So again for the restaurants it´s green for basic, orange for better and blue for best but then we have white which is excellent and a final top category ´´Table de exception´´ which classifies as top Michelin star places.
The great part about this is say you only wish to go for restaurants in the blue category, you can simply select this under the ´´discover´´ button next to the colour category and the website automatically selects the blue category places only. Having then the map button you can see where these are and plan you trips accordingly. This is exactly how I book my trips in France.
A couple of notes. When you book your accommodation and restaurants, check the opening times; French restaurants are not always open and this might affect your travel plans.
Logis also has a ´´loyalty´´ programme which is very useful indeed. You can save credits to use as hard cash when booking with them and paying the bills. I am not a big fan of such schemes but this one really is worth it. After about 10 stays you will have accumulated in the region of Euro 100 or so!
Good luck using the website and if you have any questions feel free to drop me a line.
