North UK tour 2023

Day 1 - Hull to Linton, Yorkshire Dales

Four intrepid riders arrived at Rotterdam Europort at 1700 on Friday afternoon and were able to get straight onto the ferry. After dinner and few drinks we returned for the evening. Next day arrival in Hull was chaotic in the disembarkation. A lot of bikes and inefficient Border Force meant we didn't get to our breakfast stop until 1000. After a Premier Inn stop we got ready to head over the North York Moors and then West towards out destination in Linton. The rain started already as we left Hull so we decided to don the rain gear and carry on. After about 30 mins the rain stopped and the roads dried up so we were able to notch up the speed. Through some wonderful scenery we arrived at our first overnight stop at the Fountaine Inn in Linton. Great accommodation in a beautiful small hamlet. Dinner and beers and then an early night ready for tomorrow!

Day 2 - Linton to Tirril, nr Penrith

A bit of a damp start but after breakfast we headed up into the Dales, past the Ribblehead Viaduct and through some spectacular landscapes. Crossing over from the Dales into Cumbria and the Lakes was equally spectacular. The weather expectations had been tricky but we had sunshine all day. Arrival at our hotel The Queens Head in Tirril was around 1700. Nice hotel with recently refurbished rooms and a great Sunday dinner.

Day 3 - Penrith to Peebles

Again a slightly damp start but like the day before despite the expected rain we managed to stay dry and in the sunshine all day!

Heading North towards the border with Scotland we headed through some amazing countryside and quiet roads to Scotland. A tea and lunch stop and then further up the A7 towards Hawick and Selkirk. We then turned left and left the main A7 towards the big reservoirs at Talla Linfoots. On the way home the roads were clear so we really managed to clock up some great miles and exceeding the speed limit just a little. Our overnight stay was the Traquair Hotel in Innerleithen. A great evening and a few whisky's had by all.

Day 4 - Innerleithen to Seahouses

Again despite difficult weather expectations we managed to dodge the rain again!! We left Innerleithen with a bit of drizzle but it soon warmed up as we headed south again towards England. Through the Kielder Forest and past the reservoir we headed south and then East towards the Coast.  A couple of significant diversions due to road closures meant we only arrived in Seahouses and our overnight stay The Olde Ship inn around 1700. Again a lovely evening in a beautiful seaside town , great evening and some refreshments and then it was off to bed ready for day 5.

Day 5 - Seahouses to Cothestone

Finally the weather caught up with us and heading out of Seahouses we did get quite a shower of rain. After about an hour it was dry and thanks to the warm weather the roads were quickly dry. Heading south and up onto the Pennines the roads were empty and we were able to get some speed up. A really superb ride across the Pennines down to our overnight stay at the Fox and Hounds in Cothestone. A great family run pub with 3 rooms meaning that 2 had to share. Food and beer were great and we enjoyed a quiet evening in their cosy snug before retiring to bed.
